Every child deserves
a voice β in any language.
Narjis Khatoon Hearing Impairment School empowers deaf children and youth through education, audiological care, creative arts, and the tools for an independent life, born high in the Karakoram valleys.
Founded by Afzal Rasool and Aniqa Bano, the school carries the name of their daughter, Narjis Khatoon β a reminder that deafness calls for a different kind of understanding, not less of one. Today it stands as one of the leading centers for deaf education in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Named for a girl from
the Karakoram valley
Narjis Khatoon was born in 2006 in Saling village, in the mountain valleys of the Karakoram, to Afzal Rasool and Aniqa Bano. As their first-born child, her hearing impairment set the course of her parents' lives β and, in time, the lives of hundreds of children who came after her.
What began as a modest classroom for a handful of children has grown into a recognized institution offering school and college education, audiology services, vocational training, and creative arts, with a single founding aim: that no deaf child in Gilgit-Baltistan should be denied an education, an identity, or a future.
Our vision: an inclusive society where every deaf child has equal access to education, communication, healthcare, and opportunity. Our mission: to remove barriers, strengthen families, and enable deaf individuals to live as confident, independent members of their communities.

Moments that define our community
From art exhibitions to technology fairs β our students show what's possible.
Lives transformed by education
Our alumni prove daily that deafness is never a barrier to achievement.
I never imagined I would sell my paintings to people in Germany. The school gave me a brush and the courage to use it.
Before this school, nobody had taught me how to communicate. Here I learned sign language and discovered I love computers.
I trained as a teaching assistant after I graduated. Now I help younger students the way my teachers once helped me.
