11 DREAMS, ONE FUTURE :Help 11 Deaf Students from the Himalayas and Karakoram Reach University

Their college journey has ended. Their dreams have just begun. This year marks a historic milestone for Narjis Khatoon Hearing Impairment School, Skardu. Eleven of our deaf students have successfully completed their college education, becoming part of a generation of young people with hearing disabilities who have reached a level of education that was once considered almost impossible in the remote mountainous communities of Gilgit-Baltistan. But graduation is not the end of their journey. It is where their real journey begins. We are launching “11 Dreams, One Future” to raise funds for the university education of these 11 young people and help them turn their abilities, creativity and aspirations into meaningful careers. From the Mountains of the Karakoram to University Classrooms Our students come from some of the most remote and geographically challenging communities of the Himalayan and Karakoram region. For many children with disabilities in these areas, education ends far too early—not because they lack intelligence, talent or ambition, but because opportunities simply do not exist. For a deaf child growing up in a remote mountain community, reaching college is already an extraordinary achievement. Reaching university is an even greater challenge. There are very few accessible educational pathways, limited financial resources, a shortage of sign-language support, and almost no established systems to help deaf students transition from school and college into higher education and employment. We want to change that story. 11 Students. 11 Talents. 11 Dreams. Our graduates are not asking for charity. They are asking for an opportunity to build their own futures. Being deaf has not limited their imagination. In many ways, their strong visual abilities have opened doors to forms of expression where they can communicate powerfully without spoken words. Some of our students dream of studying Fine Arts, Fashion Designing, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Animation, Information Technology, Education and other creative and professional fields. They see colours, shapes, patterns, movement and visual stories in ways that can become powerful forms of communication and livelihood. A student who once struggled to imagine a future beyond school can become a designer, artist, illustrator, digital creator, teacher, entrepreneur or professional. All they need is the chance. Why University Education Matters A university degree can change far more than one person's life. When a young person with a disability becomes educated, skilled and economically independent, the impact reaches the entire family and community. University education can help our students: Develop professional skills and careers Become financially independent Reduce dependence on their families Challenge stereotypes surrounding disability Become role models for younger deaf children Create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities Participate more fully in society Demonstrate that disability does not define a person's potential Most importantly, they can become the first generation of deaf professionals from their communities and open doors for those who come after them. Imagine What Your Support Could Do Imagine a deaf girl from a remote village in the Karakoram studying Fashion Designing at university. Imagine a young man who grew up being told that his disability would limit his future becoming a professional artist or graphic designer. Imagine one of our students using digital technology to create a career that allows him to work with people anywhere in Pakistan—or anywhere in the world. Imagine these young people returning to their communities as teachers, designers, artists, entrepreneurs and advocates. This is not simply about paying university fees. It is about transforming the way disability is understood in our communities. It is about replacing dependency with independence. It is about replacing exclusion with participation. And it is about giving young people the right to dream—and the means to pursue those dreams. We Need Your Partnership We are seeking individuals, organisations, universities, foundations and philanthropists who believe that education should not stop because a student is deaf or because they were born in a remote mountain community. Our goal is to secure financial support for the university education of all 11 graduates, including tuition fees, admission expenses, learning materials, accommodation and other essential educational costs. You can support: One student. One semester. One year. Or the complete university journey of a student. Every contribution brings one of these young people closer to the future they have imagined. Be Part of Their Journey These 11 young people have already crossed enormous barriers to reach this point. They have learned to communicate through their hands. They have learned to understand the world through their eyes. They have learned to believe in themselves. Now, let us help them take the next step. Let us take them from the classrooms of Skardu to the universities of Pakistan and beyond. Let us help them transform their talents into professions, their dreams into careers, and their education into independence. 11 Dreams. One Future. Help us make university possible for 11 deaf young people from the Himalayas and Karakoram. Because when we educate one young person with a disability, we do not change only one life. We change what an entire community believes is possible. Donate. Sponsor a student. Connect us with a university. Become a partner. Together, we can open the next door.
